It was difficult to finish reading the Weekend Journal’s criticism of John Madden. I’m not sure what John’s approval rating is, but I’m guessing it’s pretty high. He’s admired because of his experiences and work ethic, his premonitions are awesome, and he’s adored because of his style–that down home, no nonsense, the guy next door style. Does he make some errors here and there? Yes. Is it a big deal? No.
Because when you are a legend, when you people cut you some slack. (Take Clarence Clemmons’ Darth Vader meets Elvis coat last night as case in point)
But unless you are a legend, a rock star, don’t expect the hiring team to cut you any slack. Attention to spelling, to grammar, to your facts, your delivery, to really everything about you, is critical to landing your next job.
